Watch live streaming video from aesavid at livestream.com

For anyone waiting to hear some news, Avid is live-streaming their press conference from the Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention in San Francisco, at 4PM California time (7 PM Eastern). Okay, they’re not quite Apple – I’ll be seriously freaked out if CEO Gary Greenfield showed up in a black turtleneck – but it’s an interesting approach, and one we may see increasingly in audio tech.

I’ll have some news from Avid following the event.

Anyone really serious about following Avid, you can read the notes from their Q3 earnings conference call.

LCD Soundsystem, Pow Pow

The video for LCD Soundsystem's "Pow Pow" both confuses and pleases me. I like that.

The show smashing, dance inducing being that is LCD Soundsystem decided to recruit the lovely Anna Kendrick as their main character in this new clip. Watch below as Kendrick roams around a city trying to collect unsuspecting "wicked" men. If they refuse, they get flashed with white light out of Anna's hand.

Watch the video below and see if you can come to your own conclusion. Either way, the tune is the jam and Anna isn't too bad either.

"Pow Pow" is off LCD's This Is Happening out now.

Featured Chart: Kate Simko

Delivered... Posted by Beatportal | Scene | Thu 4 Nov 2010 5:59 pm
Not only is Kate Simko a crack producer, continually evolving her unique style of pulsating, nuanced, and sensual house music. She's also a killer DJ, the type often called a "DJs' DJ," with a wide range and an unfailing knack for finding the hidden thread between disparate tunes. Befitting her hometown, Simko's new Beatport Top 10 has a definite Chicago feel, showcasing tight, jacking tech-house grooves from the likes of Mr. G, Iz and Diz, and DJ Bone. Highlights? John Roberts' "Ever or Not," from his new album on Dial Records, is an essential pick for DJs of a moodier stripe. DJ Bone's "Struggle 2," from 2006, is a gorgeous slab of emotive Detroit techno. Deetron's 2008 remix of Joris Voorn's "Blank" is a tribal-tinged classic that's ripe for reappraisal. And both of Simko's tracks here—a remix of Dilo's "Waheira" and her remix of Alexis Cabrera's "Sin Ton Ni Son"—show off her versatility, alternating between gentle melodies and lithe, muscular percussive workouts. Read on for the full chart and a sampler of Simko's own productions.

Tools of the Trade: Carlo Lio

Peer into the DJ booth when Carlo Lio is in the mix, and you might be surprised. The turntables and CDJs most likely will be turned off, with the only glow coming from his laptop and the blinking blue lights on the Native Instruments X1 controllers he uses to map out his percussive tech-house grooves. Carlo Lio, the owner of Toronto's Rawthentic Music, has steadily climed higher and higher up the superstar DJ ladder, with an impressive discography spread out over some of the most highly rated techno and tech-house labels. His keen ear for patient, tracky tribal cuts and floor-freakin' techno monsters has impressed Dubfire (who Carlo frequently tours with as the opening jock) as well as Carl Cox, Paul Ritch, and numerous techno heavyweights worldwide. We caught up with Carlo Lio to find out what he's using for his performance tools, and received some great insight into the world of a vinyl junkie turned 100%-digital DJ.

News : First Impressions: Deerhoof, “Deerhoof vs. Evil”

First Impressions: Deerhoof, “Deerhoof vs. Evil”

Deerhoof
Deerhoof vs. Evil
Polyvinyl
Release Date: January 25, 2011

Tracklist:

1. Qui Dorm, Només Somia
2. Behold a Marvel in the Darkness
3. The Merry Barracks
4. No One Asked to Dance
5. Let's Dance the Jet
6. Super Duper Rescue Heads!
7. Must Fight Current
8. Secret Mobilization
9. Hey I Can
10. C'Moon
11. I Did Crimes for You
12. Almost Everyone, Almost Always

First Impressions:

- It's been about two years since Deerhoof's last album and there is finally another on the horizon. Deerhoof vs. Evil, their first release on Polyvinyl, will be out on January 25th. But to hold you up until then, they're streaming a different song from the record a week at a time until the day it drops. You can listen to the tracks here.

- A clean acoustic riff opens "Behold a Marvel in the Darkness," and is quickly followed by the lyrics, "Look into the sky." While there are still traces of the sound that has become recognizably Deerhoof, this song is much like walking into the sunlight—surprisingly bright.

- At times it still sounds like the electric guitars and drum kits have collided head on, but Deerhoof vs. Evil sees the band tone this down a bit and dish out more melody in the traditional sense of the word as well as their interpretation of it.

- "I Did Crimes for You" is at the heart of artist Adam Pendleton's documentary film installation, BAND, which follows Deerhoof during the writing and recording of the track.

- While Deerhoof have been together for 16 years, it doesn't sound like they'll be running out of ideas anytime soon.

Key Tracks:

"No One Asked to Dance," "Super Duper Rescue Heads!" and "I Did Crimes for You"

Predictions:

With the careful balance of old and new on Deerhoof vs. Evil, it seems like Deerhoof can walk into any musical territory and make it their own. They may even claim some new fans along the way.

Kim Ann Foxman unleashes ‘Creature’

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Thu 4 Nov 2010 1:16 pm

Last Tuesday at our special 10 Years Electronic Beats Anniversary Party in Berlin with Caribou and Barbara Panther, the special guest DJ who closed the show was none other than Andy Butler of Hercules and Love Affair.

During his set, and amidst the crowd of enigmatic cross dressers and a chic entourage band mate Miss Ann Foxman stands next to Butler as he plays quite possibly one of the most refreshing house tracks we have heard recently.

The track in question is ‘Creature’ and funnily enough it appears on on Miss Ann Foxman’s new release (Creature/What You Need) which has just been released on Mr. International records, including remixes from Faze Action and James Curd. The video is completely fantastic too – you can check it out below.

We are very much looking forward to hearing what else is to come from Butler and Fox. With their background in disco, house and all sorts of other interesting music we have no doubt whatever it is, it will be essential. In the mean time we will just have to listen to this on repeat, over and over and over again.

Creature/What You Need is out digitally, now exclusively on Beatport with the 12” soon to follow.

The Radio Sessions – Electronic Beats On Air with Bon Homme on Motor FM tonight

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Thu 4 Nov 2010 1:08 pm

Bon Homme will be our guest on Motor FM tonight – Thursday, November 4th – for The Radio Sessions: Electronic Beats On Air.

Homme aka Tomas Høffding is perhaps best known for his deep basslines and high pitch falsetto-vocal work in the musical blender that is WhoMadeWho. Having recently decided to launch a solo project that allows him to pursue new creative directions, he steps in to the studio for an hour long interview, shares some of his favourite songs and then presents a very special one hour mix. He certainly makes interesting and exciting guest on this weeks show.

The Radio Sessions are broadcasted each and every Thursday and the show is then available on-line by demand on Electronic Beats Radio.
