Whatevs, Don Rimini

Delivered... Posted by Beatportal | Scene | Tue 30 Nov 2010 4:49 pm
Don Rimini's "Whatever" is one of the most deliciously filthy songs we've had the pleasure to hear all year. Not just for the lyrics (which, honestly, are only mildly NSFW, although your mom definitely won't like them much—nor your sister, for that matter). It's the whole dang package, from the hoover bass to the piano stabs to the voices bubbling in the background. Pure acid-house mayhem delivered with a contemporary touch. Now the song gets a dazzling visual accompaniment courtesy directors Lionel Hirlé and Grégory Ohrel, who have come up with a style that might be termed gangsta surrealism. Whatever you call it, it's great, colorful fun. "Whatever" is out now on Don Rimini's NLarge Your Parties EP, courtesy the always reliable Mental Groove.

Dear Santa… Tell Us What Musical Stuff is on Your Wish List

Delivered... Peter Kirn | Scene,This & That | Tue 30 Nov 2010 3:41 pm

What’s truly wish-worthy? Is it a manuscript paper notebook? An iPhone app? A glitched-out hardware effect? A DAW? A sample library? A CD or book?

Before we put together some of our own suggestions for this year’s gift guide, we want to hear from you. You can add to your own wish list. You can add something you’ve gotten yourself you think someone else – or even a beginner – might want themselves. If you make something you want people to know about, be you a large vendor or garage maker, you can pitch us here, too.

There’s only one requirement: this year I’m absolutely looking for practicality. Sure, someone leaving a restore Buchla 100 Series modular with a bow on it would be nice, but there are too many terrific affordable choices to fail to focus on those. Be aware I’ll be skimming lots of answers, too, so get your elevator pitch right or find a snappy few words as a headline if you want our attention.

Nicolas Jaar announces details of Space Is Only Noise

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Tue 30 Nov 2010 2:23 pm

Space Is Only Noise - the debut album of wunderkid producer Nicolas Jaar has finally got a release date of February next year. Released via Circus Company, the album is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated electronic releases of next year, and marks only his second release with the label after a clutch of singles, remixes and one EP on Wolf + Lamb.

With his recent compilation Inès (available as limited Tin Box USB stick and download) of his own Clown & Sunset label receiving some serious love (including from us - see our next issue of Electronic Beats Magazine), we think that this marks the point where Jaar goes from underground hero to global superstar. Of sorts.

Read our recent interview with the man himself here.

Memoryhouse, Heirloom

Just in case you were feeling a little too jazzed up today, here is a very sleepy and light tune by Memoryhouse.

"Heirloom" is a super lofty tune by the dream-pop outfit and the video matches the tune accordingly. The clip features people running around a burning bus, girls looking very intently into the camera and fireworks!
