Listening to The Dø album and seeing them in an actual live show are two very different things, the sound and the mood that can emanate from their performance leads to a more nocturnal feel and darker musical mood. That is the reason Dan and Olivia decided to embark on this new live sessions project:

“We decided to record the live versions of our new songs with our musicians because they had developed such an identity of their own, we had to keep a record. They’d become complimentary to the studio album. Many fans had also been requesting a live album. We wanted to record “live in a studio”, not on stage because we were after a warm studio sound, and The Pigalle Studio was the right one for it. We love to take songs to different levels, it keeps things fresh and exciting”.  – The Dø

Niyaz – Sumud

Buy on iTunes

Niyaz, which means ‘yearning’ in Persian and Urdu, was formed in 2005 by vocalist Azam Ali, multi-instrumentalist Loga Ramin Torkian and two-time Grammy nominated producer and electronic musician Carmen Rizzo. Since their last release, Nine Heavens made waves in the global music community, the band have toured worldwide, had their music placed in numerous films & television shows and each released stunning solo albums that continue to push them into the international spotlight. Nine Heavens was heavily featured on world-wide radio (including NPR and PRI in the States), topped the charts of iTunes World Music and CMJ World Music, and continues to be discovered by new fans worldwide.

Now the band returns with their third album, Sumud. The album’s title is Arabic for “steadfastness” and the record’s musical themes center around the plight of ethnic and religious minorities around the world. Azam Ali chose this philosophical term as a symbolic reminder that, as she explains, ‘every human being should inherit the right to live with dignity and freedom upon the land on which they are born.’

With a heavier emphasis on the electronic side of their sound and a special guest vocal appearance from Oscar-winning Indian composer, musician and singer AR Rahman, Sumud is the most powerful release yet from one of global fusion’s most popular bands.

The Real Tuesday Weld – ‘The Last Werewolf’ out now!

Delivered... globalnoize | Scene | Thu 14 Jul 2011 12:19 am

The Real Tuesday Weld album The Last Werewolf takes Glen Duncan’s novel as the backdrop for a widescreen emotional cabaret tailor-made for the iTunes generation.
The album is both a high concept single piece and a diverse playlist for the eclectic of ear and heart, all in the band’s own genre ‘Antique Beat’.  The book’s themes of violence, friendship, transformation, love and betrayal are recast as a suite of songs bound together in a soundtrack by voices and readings from the text.

As ever with an album by The Real Tuesday Weld, individual tracks cover a spectrum of styles from thirties ballads and torch songs through gypsy jazz and electro-swing to minimalist electronica.  A range of influences including Gainsbourg, Chopin, Django Reinhard, Cole Porter, Springsteen, Barry Adamson and Tom Waits hover ghostlike over the story as it develops.

Da Cruz – Boom Boom Boom + free download

The ensemble Da Cruz is a collaboration between vocalist Mariana Da Cruz (a Paulista with Bahian roots) and Swiss producer Ane H. Together with their band, they merge Brazilian music, Electro, Afro Beat, Breakbeats, Ethiopian Grooves, Kuduro and other forms of dance music.

Da Cruz stand for a “modern, curious and proud Brazil“, says Mariana. “There are so many boring clichés about my country. With my music I try to show that there is a Brazil far away from Carnaval, bikinis and samba-plumes – there is also an urban, progressive, open but still romantic Brazil with a sane respect towards its traditions and culture.”

Cheb I Sabbah Cancer Treatment Fund

Donate to the Cheb i Sabbah Cancer Treatment Fund

Musical pioneer Cheb i Sabbah was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer.  He was advised that the cancer was spreading to his liver and left lung and that time was not on his side.    Like many Americans, “Chebiji” – as he is affectionately known – does not have health insurance.  Due to his weak health condition, Chebiji found himself having to cancel live shows, meaning his income stream has come to a complete halt, with mounting medical bills and future medical costs ahead.

Upon learning of his condition, a few close friends and artists have come together to rally around Chebiji and assist him with his fight.  Devastated by the news and outraged that an artist of Chebiji’s caliber cannot afford to care for himself and receive the proper urgent medical treatment needed, we have set up a fund to hSabbah’s influence on the global electronic music and DJ scene cannot be over estimated. He has shown two entire generations that classical world traditions can blend beautifully and respectfully with DJ Culture.  Thousands have experienced his music and artistic vision through his many albums and on his dance floors – whether in Goa, Essaouira, Moscow or at Nickie’s, where he ran an eighteen year San Francisco weekly residence, we know what a beautiful gift Chebiji has been to the world at large. This is our opportunity to give something back to Cheb i Sabbah in his time of need

We have identified a cancer clinic in Germany that is ideally suited for Chebiji’s condition and age.  We estimate a treatment and recovery period of one year during which time Chebiji will be unable to work.  Our projected costs for his treatment and household expenses during the treatment and recovery period is $45,000. We hope to raise $20,000 through private donations, benefit shows and benefit albums/remix albums.  We turn to you, the friends and fans to help us raise another $25,000.

We ask all of Chebij’s friends and fans to help spread the word about his condition via all social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook).

Vieux Farka Touré’s New Album Release + FREE Download!

Delivered... globalnoize | Scene | Mon 16 May 2011 9:13 pm

FREE download for Aigna (ft. Derek Trucks) from The Secret, out May 24th!

With his 2010 World Cup performance before a billion people in Johannesburg, South Africa, Vieux Farka Touré has become one of the most celebrated African guitarists in history. Unanimously hailed as one of the best contemporary African music releases of the year, his last studio album, Fondo, saw Vieux emphatically emerging out of the famous shadow of his father, beloved African super star Ali Farka Touré- with excursions into jam-rock and electronic virtuosity, fused with the sublime elements of Malian and West African rhythms. Fondo largely made the boundaries between rock and world music immaterial.

Recorded largely in Mali’s Studio Bogolan before being carried to Brooklyn, The Secret was produced by Eric Krasno, a versatile guitarist and founder of jazz futurists Soulive. Originally conceived of as an extended family-style project, Krasno says, “Initially we wanted to have a lot of guests, but in the end we narrowed it down to just a few, and that lent itself to the strength of the album.” Still, when those musical relatives include people like Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, John Scofield and Ivan Neville, the sonic DNA is going to be heavy and the sessions are going to run deep.

Pre-order The Secret from the Six Degrees Records Shop here.
